Introduction
Welcome to Scottish Target
Shooting! This
Federation is the umbrella organisation responsible for the administration and
development of target shooting in Scotland. Much of this work is carried
out by our four member associations, namely the Scottish Clay Target
Association, the Scottish Pistol Association, the
Scottish Rifle Association and
the Scottish Smallbore Rifle Association.
Scottish Target Shooting is the point of contact for the sport of
target shooting for various agencies and other bodies, such as sportscotland
and the Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland. It also represents the
interests of Scottish target shooters on the British Shooting board.
Scottish Target Shooting has direct responsibility for the selection
of teams to compete at Commonwealth Championships, and nomination of athletes to
Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland for participation in Commonwealth Youth
Games and Commonwealth Games.

Scotland's Oldest
International Sport!
According to the National Museum of
Scotland, Target Shooting is the oldest International Sport in the
world. The first International Competition held in the modern
sporting era took place between Scotland and England during the National
Rifle Association's inaugural meeting at Wimbledon in 1860. |
British Shooting
Performance Pathway
British Shooting has now completed a
review of the Performance Pathway athletes, and as a result the number
of Scottish shooters supported by this programme has reduced to five:
Jonathan Hammond (Rifle), Matthew Thomson (Rifle), Neil Stirton (Rifle), Ossie
McLean (Trap) & Emma Cole-Hamilton (Rifle) are included in the programme.
Alan Ritchie (Pistol) was initially included for this forthcoming year,
but has resigned for personal reasons. For

At the recent Commonwealth Games Federation Assembly
in Sri Lanka a number of changes to the Commonwealth Games programme have been
agreed:

With immediate
effect, Women's Skeet and Women's Double Trap have been removed from the
programme. This change is as a direct consequence of low participation
levels at the 2002 and 2006 Games in these events. Women's Skeet
remains an Olympic event, and Scottish Target Shooting will continue to
support athletes in this event who are pursuing Great Britain team
selection.

From effect
from 2014, with the exception of Fullbore Rifle, all of the Pairs events,
and the non-Olympic individual events, are to be removed from the programme.
The non-Olympic events are Women's 50m Prone Rifle - an event in which
Scotland has won three Gold, two Silver and two Bronze medals since 1994 -
Men's 25m Standard Pistol and Men's 25m Centre Fire Pistol. All three
of these events have attracted considerably higher numbers of participants
than a number of the Olympic events which are retained, and the Women's
Prone decision in particular will mean that for the first time ever, Women
will be unable to compete in the Prone event at the Commonwealth Games.
